The Ceiba is the Maya world-tree — the axis that joins the sky, the earth, and Xibalba below. We did not choose the street, but we will absolutely be taking credit for it. Our otter has been swimming between those same three planes since 2016, and this year the city named a road after the idea.
Look for the temple. You will hear it before you see it.

Ten years, three names
A group of Pacific Northwest rabble rousers who are delighted by dust, moved by music, and learned in lore. Here to let the spirit of the playa twine with the spirit of Pachi to make dreams come true.

Insomnophilia began as a camp called Soul Mate in 2016. The previous year one of the founding members missed a breakfast shift at another camp, and things were never the same.
We started as a small group sleeping in sweaty yurts, hanging out in the back of a U-Haul, slinging yerba maté cocktails, and unfortunately eating clam chowder in the blazing sun. Since then the camp has grown and blossomed, and in 2022 began a new chapter as Insomnophilia — people who love never sleeping.
Over the last few years we’ve shown up as bugs on bikes, biker cats, celebrated Christmas with the slutty Grinch, read feline tarot, and brought prankster energy and a thespian spirit to the playa.
Burners have come to know us by our midnight coffee bar, ensuring that no one is able to fall asleep before noon the following day, thanks to a concentrated home-brewed cold brew. It’ll keep the eyes open and the heart racing.
In 2026, which is this year, we’re beginning another evolution of Soul Mate and Insomnophilia in our little home in the desert. We’re bringing the House of Pachi to Burning Man for the first time — but it’s not the first time that Pachi has gone to Burning Man. Pachi is the river otter deity who walks between worlds: waking and sleep, natural and spiritual, earthly and celestial. Pachi has attended Burning Man for the last forty years, but was present for all of the famous Burnings since the dawn of time. Before Baker Beach and Black Rock City there were many burnings of all types throughout history. Pachi’s story began well before our own.
This year we will be bringing these stories, miracles, and rich history to the playa, sharing them through a number of spirit-bending, heart-rattling, shape-shifting ceremonies. Turning coffee into gazpacho. Starting with Immaculate Conception and ending the week with Resurrection.
Pachi comes back to earth only once a year, to watch the man burn. During their yearly visit they have yet to escape Burning Man without an expected death. Will Pachi survive Burning Man for the first time? Only through prayer and discipline will we find out. Our cult’s camp’s work is to spread the gospel and bring Pachi back to life by recruiting new members to the House of Pachi.

Start with the Conception
Sunday at 11 PM is the orientation — the story of Pachi, the sacramental brew, and the welcome. Everything else in the week reads better once you have been.
Noon, any weekday
Daily Seas runs Monday through Friday at 12 PM in the House of Pachi. Drop in with no preparation and no prior attendance.
Bring a bike Monday
The Initiation Pilgrimage gathers at camp from 5 PM and departs at 6. Two wheels keep pace with the congregation, but walkers are welcome.
